Seward, AK – July 10

Seward KOA

Today is a travel day, but we also explored stops on the way to Seward. 127 Miles, our travel log calls this a 7 hour drive. Do the math on that one… Well it can be 7 hours if you stop and explore. What is important is you cannot check in to the campground before a certain time of day (1:00 PM).

As we were exiting the campground, we had a large Eagle sitting on the street light post. I think he was waiting for Winnie to walk past. But I had Winnie safely tucked into Tatanka!

Just outside of Anchorage is the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center. Which is just down the road from the ski resort we visited the day before. We got to see so many animals being cared for at this conservation center. A black bear was sleeping up in a tree, he was fun to watch as he stretched every now and then.  We also got to see Linx, Grizzley Bears, Moose, Buffalo/Bison/Tatanka, Owls, Porcupine, Coyotes, and more…

Next, we traveled down the road to see Portage Glacier. The parking area was a bit small, I was not sure how we would get out back to the road. We found several of our Fantasy friends parked already and had to wait for them to leave before we could exit. But we made it!!!

We drove through Moose Pass which is part of the Kenai Peninsula. If you have not figured it out yet, Judi and I are partial to Moose! “Moose on the Loose” is our go to phrase.

At our campsite, there is an abandoned Eagles nest. Story has it some idiot flew his drone to look in the next when it was occupied, pissed off the Eagle and they took down his drone! Serves his right for invading their space. Still plenty of Eagles in the immediate vicinity. We have learned the call of an Eagle, but do not ask of to repeat that sound.
