Say “Kitch-iti-kipi” three times fast! I can barely say it once and I am sure I slaughter the name.
Kitch-iti-kipi is a word from the Ojibwa tribe that labeled the big spring when the Europeans arrived in the region. The word has many meanings:
The Great Water
The Blue Sky I See
The Roaring Bubbling Spring
When you visit, you have the option to go out on a cable guided Tug Boat. Why call it a tug boat? My guess is because the passengers of the boat have to take turns operating the boat. You have a large wheel mounted on the side that needs to be turned in the direction you want to travel. Judi and I took our turn among others. We actually had three of us turning the wheel which made it easier. The tricky part is make sure the lever is in the proper position to lock into the dock. If you don’t lock it, they gate will not open! The group ahead of us had troubles docking because of the latch and they were too slow making contact.
