We are still in Whitehorse, YT. We are with our group visiting the S.S. Klondike steamboat. The Klondike was build to haul ore and freight in a time before roads existed. The Klondike was one of the largest of its kind. The original vessel sank in 1936, they then build the S.S. Klondike II which began operations in 1937. Many years later it became a cruise ship for passengers in the mid 1950’s until her final run in 1955. In 1981 she became a national historical site in Whitehorse for visitors. Unfortunately, we were unable to tour the boat as she is undergoing restoration work.
From the Klondike, we walked to the visitors center where we watch a short film on the history of the Klondike. This visitors center and the town have some beautiful art work consisting of both stained glass and murals painted on the buildings.
Next up was lunch with the group of 45 traveling caravaners. We had a great meal. Judi and I as well as others skipped the Beringia Tour and went to a glass blowing exhibit where we all made very unique glass ornaments. One is making his into a hummingbird feeder when he arrives home, I am sure it will be gorgeous when he is done
The remainder of the day was ours to do as we wanted. Poor Winnie was filthy dirty and in great need of a bath. I found feed store that offered a dog wash. I loaded her into the car and away we went. I am sure that water was just like chocolate milk when we finished. The facility was very nice. I even torchured by blowing her hair dry and brushing. She looked so much better!
FYI, our campgrounds are nothing special. Much like a dirt parking lot with a few amenities. This one did offer full hookups with 30 amp electrical.
