Sorry, here I sit on Day 22 and the best I have is to post day 13!!! We take so many photos and I have to get Judi’s photos incorporated into my photos, then I have to decide which photos do I share? I can’t possibly share them all, for multiple reasons.

  • Example 1 – Combined we have 203 photos that I have not deleted for just this one day!
  • Example 2 – This crazy interface that I am using for posting will upload photos over a certain pixel size, 2560 pixels.

June 13 began with a drive from our Bow RiversEdge RV Park to Banff National Park. We were able to see beautiful country side including lakes, mountains, bridges, and true cowboys rounding up cows.

Arriving at Banff National Park, we had a line to get park passes which were good for both Banff, Yoho, and Jasper National Parks. Passes here are for your vehicle and each person in the car. In the U.S. National Parks, you pay per vehicle. We had to purchase a 4 day pass that was only good until 4 PM on our last day. The good news we could transfer the pass from the car to the motorhome!

We attempted to visit Lake Louise first and found if you did not pre-buy parking and shuttle service, you could drive up and be promptly routed back down the mountain to the village area. We saw people parking in far off places that thought they would walk up from their parked car to Lake Louise, this was not a walk/hike for that faint at heart or out of shape people like me! It was up hill some steep and you often had to walk in the road with crazy drivers like us. Nope, we left the area and headed towards Emerald Lake and the Yoho National Park. On our way back towards the city of Cochrane, we decided to see if Lake Louise was less crazy, we got lucky and were able to park and view the lake. The bridges that we go under which have grass, dirt, trees, etc are “animal overpasses” to allow wildlife to safely cross the highway. They have cameras and track what animals are crossing and when. This is supposed to be a safer way for both the travelers and the animals. They find it works well.

Emerald Lake is very beautiful you should be able to walk the path around the lake, however they had fallen trees that prevented easy hiking around. We did find on the walking path a pile of bear pooh, eeks you have to be Bear Aware! Winnie played a little in the water but not much. Judi is our collector of the wild flower photos. We have seen a lot of very pretty flowers.

Next up we headed towards the Natural Bridge, the water rushing was wild and crazy. As we were talking with a couple, I spied two people out on the Bridge, one had already crossed, the other was trying to get nerve enough to jump across. One small miss-step and she was going to be a goner! She finally came to her senses when she realized we were all watching and she turned around back the way she came.

We then drove to see a huge waterfall, Takkakaw Falls. This waterfall is one of Canada’s largest waterfalls at 1124 feet and is fed by a glacier. To get to the waterfall you had to drive up this switchback road and if your vehicle was over a certain length, you had to pull forward into spot, then reverse up the switchback to the next spot and forward up the last switchback. You had to repeat this going back down! Thank goodness we were in the Cadillac and could drive forward the entire distance.

Lake Louise

Stay tuned for day 14, I only have 149 photos to pick from…
