Wow, what happened to posting about our trip? Never expected it to be so hard to make regular postings while on the road. Today is July 5 and I am just writing about June 15 & 16! Call me a slacker. Now let me look back and see what we did on days 15 and 16.
On day 15, we left Bow RiversEdge RV Park in Cochrane, BC and headed through Banff National Park to Jasper National Park. The views are just so breathtaking, I am sure I have plenty of photos to share. Judi actually takes numerous photos as I drive the motorhome. We make some occasional stops where I can take a few pictures, we walk Winnie to stretch her legs, sniff, and potty. At the same time, I get a potty break too.
Day 15 was a long drive up into the mountains, around a few curves or two, down the mountains. We did stop at the Columbia Icefields it was a rainy and cold day, tickets to go up onto the glacier or even the glass walkway were just crazy expensive so we wondered in the visitors center. We found a pair of waterfall with massive rapids at Sunwapta Falls in Jasper National Park along the Icefields Parkway. We carried onto Jasper.
Jasper was a little sad to see. If you remember a few years ago, they had a huge forest fire that wiped out a great deal of their town. It is much like recovery in Florida after a hurricane. You have a ton of work for builders and contractors, but no people to do the work! Or maybe just a limited amount of resources. Our campground was covered into burnt out trees. Near our campground was the Jasper Sky Tram, you could watch it go up and back down in the near distance.
On day 16, I got up to take Winnie for her morning walk and saw the tram was already running. I looked it up on the website and found we could get on the 7:45 am lift before we left for our next travel day. I get into the motorhome and say “Hey Judi, want to go on the sky tram? We can go this morning, you have to be ready to leave within 30 minutes or less!” We headed out the door and drove up the mountain road to the parking area and got right onto the left ahead of schedule. The views were amazing. One problem… A storm rolled in with heavy fog, rain and wind. We are now stuck on the top of the mountain. Lucky for us they had a cafe serving breakfast, we enjoyed a nice breakfast with coffee and hot cocoa. Chatted with our fellow travelers. We were finally able to make it down the sky tram and back to the campground for our 11:00 am checkout!
Now we traveled from Jasper to Dawson Creek, BC where we actually start our RV caravan in 2 more days.
Stay tuned for more about our Alaska Bound Journey!
