July 12 – Seward, AK
This day is a day to remember.
The morning started with rain and it was planned that our Wagon masters and Tail gunners would cook breakfast. Well they did cook for us, but it was not what was intended, we grabbed food and went back to our rigs to enjoy the meal in the comforts of our dry space.
We had time to go to explore on our own. We teamed up with our new friends Diane, Mike, Jennifer, and Kevin to go on the Kenai Fjords Glacier National Park & Wildlife Cruise. We boarded a double decker boat, we were provided lunch while we were cruising the bay on our way to see one of the glaciers. The trip was going so well… Then we hit open waters on our way to the glacier. The waves were an easy 5-7 feet. This makes for a very rocky ride. I headed outside to the lower deck. The crew looked at me as I came down the stairs, they offered me a bag and ginger ale. I tried really hard to not use the bag and sip on the ginger ale. But guess what the fish were very hungry, I think… Oh lunch, it is gone…
Eventually, I settled down on a bench seat on the back of the boat along with many others. It was rainy, it was cold, I was frozen and just praying to get off the boat. I sat slumped over staring on my feet and the floor of the boat. Once the boat got back into the bay, which felt like 10 hours later, I managed to go back up with my group. I got down a couple of crackers and was beginning to feel human again.
Upon returning to the rig, my loving sister made me Mom’s favorite meal, Chicken Noodle soup from Campbell’s Soup. I was so frozen, the soup helped.
