Alaska Bound – Day 53 – Caravan Day 36

Haines, AK – July 23

This is a travel day as we depart Destruction Bay, YT and head to Haines, AK. Guess what, we have another border crossing today!  We have 213 miles to travel and it is projected to take 4-5 hours. We cannot arrive at our campground until 1:00 PM and we have to leave Destruction Bay between 6:00 AM and 8:00 AM.

We came across two different black bears as we drove. One decided to walk along the side of the road and eventually cross between our friends Kevin and Jennifer and Judi and I. If you look at the one photo, you can see how large the pad of his feet can be.

The mountains today have some clouds hanging down into them, you may notice in the photos that once again, we have rain. But not all day long. You will also see that we have more “bare trees” on the mountain sides. Ok, so they are not trees but I believe they are when the rain and dirt run down the mountain sides.

I love when it appears the road ends into the water straight ahead of us. Or when you look at how the road goes down hill, around curves and back up hill.

Stay tuned for more adventures…
