Alaska Bound – Day 55 – Caravan Day 38

Haines, AK – July 25

Today our group is going on another smaller boat ride from Haines, AK to Juneau, AK. The projection was for 5-6 foot waves! Guess what this means, if I go… I feed the fish! I decided to hang back with Winnie and skip going to Juneau. Then Judi learned that Juneau would be another day of shopping / tourist trap stuff. She too decided to skip the trip. And I might add the water turned out to be very calm and I could have gone, but I did not need to go spend four hours shopping.

Judi stayed at the rig and did some work for her client. I went on a float trip with Dan & Susan where we were looking for wildlife and Eagles. We did see many Eagles. The water was just calm as could be on our float trip, it was shorter than we had expected. I often like to take panoramic photos and attempted one while sitting on the raft. Our guide, decided to help, she spun the boat in place for one of my panoramic photos. If you look at it closely, she is a bit funny looking, like the mirrors you could look in at the fair!

Speaking of fairs, Haines was hosting the Alaska State Fair while we were in town. To get into the fair one night was $25 per person. Needless to say, I did not need to go to the fair. Winnie appreciated that I stuck around with her.

After sunset, Judi and I went out looking for bears. We found one! It was right next to the car in the wooded area.

As we were headed back to the rig, the moon made an appearance. This is like this first time we actually could see the moon in the dark. Judi hopped out of the car and did her thing to catch some photos!

Stay tuned for more adventures…
